Chasing Sunrise

ChasingSunrise_BlogTour_SHello, everyone! I’m Lex Chase and a big thank you for Michael hosting me today! You would not believe how long it took us to coordinate the logistics! There were threats of bodily harm! I swear! Here we are on stop number two on the Chasing Sunrise Blog Tour!

Chasing Sunrise is a tale near and dear to my heart. It’s a paranormal urban fantasy with my take on vampires and shifters, but it’s truly a story about domestic violence. The main character, Sevon, is trapped in a lifelong abusive relationship and fears he will never escape. Until a twist of fate provides just that chance. Sevon is determined find love on his own terms and learn he is worthy of being loved. As a domestic violence survivor from a lesbian relationship, I hope it resonates with readers.

Over on Chris T. Kat’s blog, I talked about the cover about Sevon and his highly androgynous ways. You can read more about that here!

Today, I’m talking about where the pre-sales are going, and how they almost didn’t go anywhere.

Until the release day of July 25th, all of the pre-sale royalties are going to the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center’s Domestic Violence Service. You can read more about them here!

I fess up I was having a self-conscious moment. In the recent wave of Facebook posts of people tired with getting spammed with adds to buy someone’s book, or join this blitz, or come to this chat, I grew hesitant if I should say anything at all. Even when Chasing Sunrise hit pre-sales I didn’t even make a single peep on my blog about it for fear of spamming. Here I was, trying to support an awesome cause, one seriously important to me, and I was worried about turning potential readers off. Yes. That’s pretty much what happened.

On July 13th, in a moment of fear of being laughed right off the face of the internet, I sent out the call to every source I had. I then went to bed, thinking nothing would happen, thinking I made a fool of myself. Depressed about it that I was going to pretty much give the LA Center a check for less than 20 bucksóI wish I was making that upóI checked my phone in the bleariness of getting on with my day… And the internet exploded.

Tweets, Facebook Posts, Blogs, Emails, mountains upon mountains of emails asking for more information. They asked me to write a few words about my experiences, or asked me to write a quick little something for newsletters. People I didn’t even know tweeting and Facebooking because a friend of a friend of a friend mentioned it. The most stunning thing is people I thought I was destined to never get along with, or didn’t even know I existed, not only bought copies, but promoted the book as well.

It was quite a wacky few days. And here I thought I was going to have a normal weekend of doing the third round of edits of another series I have starting up, and then put in some much needed words on Chasing Sunrise’s sequel Glass Moon. So much for that!

Is this what it’s like to go viral? I have to say it’s been a pretty wild ride!

At the end of the day, the message is clear. If you or someone you know is a survivor of domestic violence, or someone that’s being abused, let them know someone out there gets it. Someone out there understands. And that they will see the light again. Give them this book, my humble offering. Or consider donating to the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center directly!

  1. Great post Lex! I love the cause you are putting the royalties for preorders too! It’s extremely generous and will help so much!
