Living Again

LivingAgain_FBThumb Hi all,

I’m enjoying my blog tour so far, and have gotten a fair number of responses for my give away. If you haven’t seen any of my other stops on this tour, here’s how the giveaway will work. Comment below, and go to as many sites listed in the blog schedule listed here and comment there as well. Each blog you comment on will earn you one entry for my giveaway. Three prizes will be given. One signed paperback copy, and two electronic copies of Living Again.

Now to talk about other things.

How do you combat procrastination?

I’m working on another story that I hope to submit to Dreamspinner, and I’m almost finished. That seems to be when procrastination hits. When I’m just that close to completed. Then, suddenly, everything else seems more important, shinier, more fun. Everything draws my attention away.

Suddenly the house just has to be immaculate, and that scrapbook I’ve been working on for ten years just has to be done. There are pictures that want painted and photos that want taken. TV shows, that I have on DVD mind you, just have to be watched. Right now.

Now, this time, I do have a little more reason to actually listen to the distractions. Summer is drawing to an end and there really are things that need to be done before that happens. I have lesson plans that really do need to be written…at some point, but after teaching for as long as I have been, I don’t really have to do that right now.

I have birthdays to plan for my two babies who are decidedly not babies anymore, but so far still want to spend their birthdays with their mom. And I have a mom with dementia who really does demand attention.

But that’s not what I’m talking about. I mean those distractions that really could wait.

I love to write. In fact, I often procrastinate on other things by writing. So, why is it that when I get near to the end of a story, that I seem to want to do anything else besides actually finish it.

Is it, in part, that once I finish it, there is no more to write in that world?

That could be part of it. I get so invested in my characters and in their lives, that when I finish a story, it does seem like a loss of sorts. Like the characters had been friends I’ve been spending a lot of time with for months and now, suddenly never see anymore.

What do you think? Authors, do any of you ever struggle with procrastination when writing? Readers, do you ever find yourself procrastinating about finishing anything? Maybe that book you’ve been reading for a long time, or just a project you’ve been working on?
Give me your insight in the comments below.
