New Release Anxiety

The Case of the Missing Drag Queen comes out on June 19th: exactly one year after I started working on the story. It’s my first new release since Whippersnapper came out in 2016. As always, I’m anxious to see what happens. Click Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or DSP Publications to preorder. The quick turnaround to release day is a record for me. Just writing each of my first four novels took a year or longer. Depending on the wait to get a contract, the publication process adds another nine- to twelve months to the timeline. At least, that’s what I expected. Revamping my writing process sped things up on my end. Instead of making everything up as I went along, I used …

Exclusive Interview with Tellumo Magnamater

My guest today is Tellumo Magnamater. He’s the star of my new release, Whippersnapper. If you ask me, everything about him is interesting. Thanks, Tellumo, for stopping by. Tellumo: You’re welcome. I’m thrilled to be here and excited about answering questions from you and readers. MR: Well, the first question everybody asks is about your name. Where did it come from? Tellumo: My parents are lesbians and devout feminists. In mythology, Tellumo was the masculine counterpart and consort of the goddess, Tellus — the earth mother. Magnamater (or Magna Mater) is Latin for Great Mother. MR: Very interesting. What was it like to be raised by lesbians? Tellumo: More normal than you might think — at least for me since …

Exclusive Interview with Oliver Crumbly

I’m thrilled to bring you another exclusive interview. My guest today is Oliver Crumbly. He’s the the older man in the May-September relationship at the center of Whippersnapper. Thanks, Oliver, for making time to talk to me. Oliver: You say that like I had a choice. MR: I’m sorry. Are we keeping you from something? Oliver: I’ve always got something to do. Since retiring, I don’t see how I found the time to work. But the issue is that I’m a very private person. Living in the spotlight has been a challenge. No matter where I go in Fallisville, eople recognize me. MR: Whippersnapper certainly put Fallisville on the map. Have you always lived there? Oliver: No. I grew up …

TTFN, Luke Tanner

I’ve been not working on my current work in progress for several months. “I haven’t been” sounds like maybe someone or something else is to blame. “I’ve been not working” puts the responsibility where it belongs. Months ago, I wrote the first three chapters of the first book in the Luke Tanner, Private Eye series. Since then, I’ve been not working on it. Early on, I changed up a few details every time I read a chapter, but where to go next eluded me. So I worked on other stuff. My writing time is limited by the demands of the day job and other responsibilities. Preparing my weekly posts for this blog takes more time than it should. Blog posts …
