The Heart of Frost Blog Tour & Giveaway

CCHFBlogTourBanner

Hello, Charlie Cochet here! Thank you for joining me on stop 5 of The Heart of Frost blog tour! Today I’m chatting about holiday traditions. I come from a Hispanic family, so we tend to gather together and have our family dinners/parties on Noche Buena (Christmas Eve) rather than Christmas Day. We also have traditional food, like Lechon asado (roasted suckling pig), Congri (black beans and rice), Yuca con mojo (yuca with garlic), Tostones or platanos maduros (plantains) salad, and of course a dulce de tres leches after.

If it’s a big gathering, everything is laid out on a long table in trays where everyone lines up and helps themselves. There’s always multiple desserts, and everyone brings something. We still open our gifts on Christmas Day.  While growing up, my parents went with the tradition of Santa delivering gifts for us kids, but in Cuba, it was the three wise men who delivered the presents. Over the years, our family has sort of taken the best of both Christmas cultures and mixed them together to make a super Cuban-American tradition.

  1. Oh wow! Your Noche Buena meal sounds so yummy! We traditionally have tamales with pico de gallo on Christmas Eve. Thanks for the giveaway.

  2. Oh, wow, your Noche Buena meal sounds really yummy! We usually have tamales with pico de gallo on Christmas Eve. Thanks for the giveaway.

    • Hi Jen! Thank you! Mm… I love tamales! We have them occasionally with holiday meals but my mom is very picky about them being just right. My parents used to make them when I was younger but now it’s a bit too much work for them. When you get just the right ones, yum!

  3. I can relate to the tradition mentioned above. I am from Puerto Rico. Our Noche Buena meal is a guarantee to make sure you sleep well 🙂 We celebrate from Thanksgiving to the Octavitas which is 8 day after January 6 (Three Kings Day).
    Thanks for the giveaway 🙂

  4. My hubby’s family has a tradition of enchiladas for the holidays, complete with the family recipe for homemade sauce. So, that’s what we have for Christmas along with the prime rib roast.

  5. It’s become a tradition for one side of my family to have grilled subs on the Saturday after Christmas at our get-together. After all the rich, traditional foods everyone has already had, it’s such a nice break to eat some “normal” food. Everybody brings some different deli meats and cheeses, add some buns, chips, pop, and Foreman grills (and maybe some leftover cookies), and we’re set. 🙂

  6. Sigh, the Cuban pork roast looks gorgeous! Friends always bring wonderful homemade pork tamales on Christmas Eve (I always want to take them all myself), and usually there’s a roast of some sort…

    • Hi Trix! Cuban pork is kind of the staple of every celebration here. A lot of my parents friends make it for Thanksgiving too, but I like making turkey to have a bit of variety. lol

  7. Hi, there! For Christmas, my mother always prepares her oyster dressing, which is out of this world! She also makes her mother’s divinity candy, but it’s not quite like Grandma used to make, but it’s close. Merry Christmas!

  8. Being Italian we do a big dinner Christmas Eve – lasagna, stuffed shells, bruschetta, and lots of vino 🙂 Happy Holidays

  9. We do appetizers on Christmas Eve and Christmas day dinner varies. I grew up with turkey or ham but we have been doing standing rib roasts the last few years now. I would love to go back to the turkey though, I’m one of those weird people that actually enjoys the turkey! Thank you for the giveaway.
