I love college football. Well, not ALL college football. I’m partial to the SEC–especially Georgia and Kentucky.
My interest in football started in grade school. A neighbor played in a recreation league. His parents showed up at every game with a carload of neighborhood kids to cheer him on.
And cheer I did. My attention every game was riveted on the cheerleaders. I knew all the words and moves for every cheer. I practiced in the backyard in front of a big window to see my reflection. Girl, I was good too. The problem was going the wrong way because I learned all the cheers face-to-face.
My interest continued into college. Somebody was always giving tickets away. At the time, being a Kentucky football fan was more about getting smashed at pregame tail-gating around the stadium and, more often than not, leaving by halftime.
Then I moved to Georgia. OMG! The huge UGA campus is blanketed with tailgaters for every home game. Hordes of motor homes, RVs, and buses descend upon Athens, circling until after 5:00 Friday afternoon when they are permitted on campus.
I’ve done the season ticket thing and vastly prefer the comfort of my air-conditioned living room. I watch noon and 3:30 games every Saturday. Later games are iffy. Staying awake to halftime is a challenge. I don’t even try unless Kentucky or Georgia is playing. Even then I end up checking online in the middle of the night to see who won.
This season has been wild. Upsets every weekend have rocked the rankings. Vanderbilt knocked Alabama out of the number one spot. Enough said.
Pundits say the transfer portal has leveled the playing field. Changes to the conferences have shaken things up too. The new 12-game plan for the national championship gives eight more teams a shot at the national championship.
Going into week 10 of 15, more upsets are likely. One thing for sure. I’ll be watching (up to 9ish eastern time). The championship will be a late game. If Georgia is in the finals, I may even stay up. Or at least, try.
I’ll keep you posted. Thanks for stopping by!
