‘Tis the season for gratitude. I try to keep an attitude of gratitude all year. Focusing on the positive makes my life more enjoyable and a bit easier.
I’ve done a lot of really stupid things. Sometimes, I didn’t know any better. Sometimes, I did, but didn’t care. Bad decisions mostly made my life more difficult than otherwise would have been the case.
Good choices were also in the mix. Sometimes, the right choice was obvious. Luck certainly played a role. My life today is the sum of those choices–the good, the bad, and the ugly.
I have no regrets. Sure, I’d likely make different choices today, but I don’t give that much thought. What’s done, is done.
Nor do I fret much about what’s to come. I’ve spent too much time in my life worrying about stuff that never came to be. No more. Whatever will be, will be.
Comparisons are another waste of time. Nobody is like me (or you). Every journey is unique. Unless we’ve made exactly the same choices, it’s like apples and oranges.
There’s nothing all that special about me. In all aspects of life, many are more successful. Other than envying guys my age with full heads of hair, I’m not jealous.
Similarly, no matter how bad something I’m facing may be, others are dealing with far worse. Lots of people I know are facing very serious issues–and that’s just the ones I know about. Everyone is dealing with something.
An attitude of gratitude is a choice. Maintaining the gratitude attitude isn’t easy–especially at first. When I catch myself veering off course, taking a moment to count my blessings puts me back on track. Works every time.
As always, thanks for stopping by.
